ISO 37001 - Is it naive to implement an Anti-Bribery Management System in Mexico?

Some people consider it naive and useless to implement anti-bribery management systems in organizations in Mexico. Some certification bodies do not even have plans to include ISO 37001 certification for these management systems in our country whithin their services…

Contrary to what many people believe, Mexicans DO NOT have corruption and bribery in our DNA! They are complex phenomena that depend on various historical, cultural and circumstantial factors.

Implementing an anti-bribery system and its certification in accordance with the International Standard ISO 37001 does not imply a consecration in the ethical purity of the organization and its personnel.

It means that the organization has demonstrated that there is the will, the commitment and the set of processes and other elements of management, to provide confidence to relevant entities that everything technically and humanly possible is being done to achieve the elimination of bribery and maintain the risks of bribery at low levels.

This is not to say that there will never be bribes. But yes, an adequate and effective effort is being made to significantly reduce the likelihood of them.

Nothing more… but not at all less!

Certainly, as reality shows us every day, eliminating bribery and corruption will not be easy in our beloved Mexico ... But all possible efforts must be made to eradicate or at least significantly reduce this social and cultural scourge that exists all over the world...

Let's start with that, and continually improve.
